Here's the back--aren't the ripples and wavelets lovely? And, is it quite different from what you have expected? Not so wild, not so bold…
I actually stopped at six rows before the bind-off row so I still have a chance to tweak the neckline a bit. Once again there's a dilemma. On one hand, the wavy neckline should get fixed. On the other hand, a fancy collar won't work since the vest is supposed to have a simple cut. The fact that it will be paired up with a shirt/blouse should be considered as well. What do you think? Shall I finish the vest with a few lines of garter stitches along the back and the front neckline and let them fall back leisurely, or shall I do an I-cord bind-off?
With Indigo Flowers sitting quietly aside, I picked up my tiny little lace needles--oh how am I obsessed--to cast on a few stitches with my new favorite yarn (THE silk). Yup I am trying a new design, no I have not figured it out completely yet, but that's why we like knitting and designing so much ;-), correct?
Finally, having seen how beautiful this (Non-)Pencil Sketch had turned out to be, I thought it might be a good idea to modify the pattern and expand the size range--just give me a little more time!

I don't have much advice for the neckline. Sorry. Garter rows would certainly be the easiest and I think it would help give it a finished look. Lace can be a bit of a pain. I'm sure whatever you decide will be beautiful.
All that wavy lace is lovely! I think garter stitch borders might be all that you need... although I-cord edging would be very crisp and nice, too. The two options would definitely give a different feel.
P.S. Oh, Iris... I didn't mean my top wasn't a Pencil Sketch Camisole (of course it is)! I was just using a silly play on words (i.e. it's finished, it's not incomplete) for my post title. I love the name you gave it!
Yup, I knew what you meant! But I liked the title (and the hint) so much that I decided to cite it like this! Besides, your version is more like a pastel ;-), so vivid and fresh.
It's fascinating how you are combining different yarns and playing with colour on this vest. And that's a pretty pencil sketch indeed.
For the neckline, I like the i-cord concept. However, I'd add it around the entire neckline after the shoulders are bound off together. (Probably that's what you meant.) OTOH, you could just crochet around the neck to preserve or enhance the wavy effect.
its looking lovely. Are you intending to use the blue or the natural coloured yarn for the neckline? I think it will have a big impact depending which way you go. Both equally good but very different finish to the garment. Thanks for the advice on the textured jacket by the way, I'm going for a whole new stitch instead now!

We are so waiting for progress with THE silk, Perhaps you might try a moss stitch border...? It looks a bit crisper than garter stitch.

I would go with the I-cord bind off myself as it references the waves in the lace better and has less tendency to stretch or pull out of shape than garter.
