A New Sketch

Whew, another long and tiring day... ;-)

Fall is coming and I want to get myself ready--in a warm and trendy jacket maybe?

I searched over my stash and found quite a few balls of Tahki Santa Fe, a discontinued merino boucle yarn. I even found a swatch:

A little voice in my head kept telling me that it was not a good idea to knit an entire jacket out of this wild yarn, so I made a few quick sketches. Then I colored them liberally--a wild yarn like this deserves a wildly colored sketch, doesn't it ;-)? [Click to view a large picture and you'll see what I mean.]

The last sketch (No.6), as you can see, was for a pullover instead of a jacket. The idea just came up and I liked it. But I really want to make a jacket with a gigantic lapel this time--like those from Burberry Prorsum and Burda Magazine. To me, fall is the perfect season for drama.

The parts in Tiffany blue, if applicable, will be knitted in Jaeger Chamonix, a long discontinued favorite. I didn't know if sketch No.4 would be too bold, so I used Chamonix as a buffer in sketches No.1-3, and No.5. By the way, Jeager yarns are completely discontinued now.

Now, which one do you like best? I could not decide at all; Leopard voted for No.1 and No.3, but I'm never too sure about his choices. Folks, what do you think?

Well, golly! My favorites are 1 and 3 also (I like 2, as well). What lovely yarn!

I like 1 and 4 most. Though it is hard to imagine what the yarn will look like on as large areas as 4 has.

I like no.1. It seems it is not so bulky after finished.

I like 4, 6 and 1! I would be at a loss to know what to do with this yarn if I had it in mys stash, but looking at what you are designing, oh suddenly the options seem endless. I would dearly love to have your gift of putting yarn, colour and designs together.

I like #1 most. What about reversing the color scheme on #1 for even more drama?

I like 1 and 2 with 2 having an edge over one. I like all the pieces with two yarn better than one yarn. It shows it off better.

If I had to pick, I'd say 1 and 4. If I were to knit this, I'd say accessories, not garments. It is a busy yarn, and boucle has a mind of its own. But I'm sure you can make it bend to your will!

Hi Iris,
I like 2 and 4. And it's a huge bummer about Jaeger yarns being discontinued. They had some really really nice yarns. :( I had some Chamonix in the stash at some point, but sold it when I realized how impractical angora is. Lovely stuff, but sheds like a mo'fo'...

Even before you mentioned leo liked 1 and 3 those were my favorites too. Sketches are lovely as always!

I have to go with 1 & 3 also - I agree with you about the big collars, there are lots of colors in coats this winter I have seen in the magazines.

I vote for #1. The simplicity of it amps up the drama of the contrast.

I lean towards one and four.

I love classic looks-I'd have to go with 1. I wish I could sketch as good as you!

Fall is my favourite season of all.

I will pick No. 1.

What gorgeous sketches and colors! Hard to choose; they are really hard to compare, in spite of being similar in shape and materials. Although at first I was drawn to 1 and 5, on further consideration I like 2 & 6--to my eye, more interesting.

I love #1. Huge collar, swingy silouette, and touches of fancy yarn but not to the point of distraction.

Couldn't you just make all 6 please? I'd love to see them all!

Hi! I am wondering if there is any chance that you would provide the Jellyfish pattern. I found it on Ravelry and have been on a mad hunt for it ever since. I would like to make it for my mom to wear with the dress she has picked out for my sisters wedding.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
